KEY AREA
The University of Bern is a leader in research on land use, biodiversity and climate. This was clearly shown in 2020, for example, in various studies and projects on the subject of agriculture and nutrition: Researchers from Bern are looking into the problems – from pesticide contamination in Swiss lakes through climate damage caused by global fertilizer use to deforestation in the tropics. And they are researching solutions – from sparingly fertilized, species-rich meadows that still yield plenty of hay, through biological pest control to helping local communities build sustainable food systems.
